Matt Baumgardner

Matt Baumgardner is a professional artist based in New York City. His abstract paintings inmixed media on wood and canvas have been exhibited continuously since 1983 in internationally-recognized galleries in the US and Europe, with recent solo shows at Charles Cowles Gallery (New York), Gallery A (Chicago), and Bentley Gallery (Scottsdale). These paintings have received favorable notices in such publications as The New York Observer (Grace Glueck), The New York Times, The New Yorker, and The Chicago Tribune. They are included in numerous private and public collections, including the East Wing of the White House. Baumgardner was awarded the maximum National Endowment Fellowship for individual artists and is listed in Who's Who in America.

 

Prior to settling in New York, Baumgardner exhibited, taught and studied in the Carolinas. His work won numerous regional juried competitions and is represented in major Southeastern museums including the Gibbes Art Museum in Charleston, the Mint Museum in Charlotte, and the Arts Center in Spartenburg. He received his MFA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
